Should I work for free? →
As a designer, this actually comes up on a fairly regular basis. This chart spells it out in no uncertain terms.

More "New York Movie"
I’ve thought for some time that Vicky’s “Ask Reversal” idea was a great one, and I am glad I finally got to participate. A couple friends have sent some additional thoughts on the question and my response, and at the risk of getting too verbose here (if I’m not guilty already) I thought I’d post them: Thomas said: A theater is designed to focus ideas through...

pterodactyls asked: What piece of art (limitless, here, though if you say something like the Eames chair I expect that you will provide a decent explanation as to how that would work) do you wish bore a distinct resemblance to you?

So since I can only post one mp3 a day… and since there is a shocking - shocking! - dearth of old school reggae to be found to reblog on tumblr… consider yourself lucky, as I was ready to bombard you with dancehall goodness. Maybe some other time.

Interesting work-in-progress from Kibwe X-Kalibres Tavares. Using robots as metaphors, Tavares says: Throughout the year i Will be exploring ideas about the relationship between class and race with identity. I will use Brixton, (or an augmented Brixon) as the stage for my exploration and will be representing my thoughts, ideas and development through prose, drawings, film, animation and the...

Street artist Banksy to be unmasked via eBay... →
“At this time, we have no way of determining whether the winning bidder is being taken to the cleaners to the tune of $1 million or whether the seller is legitimately peddling an exclusive glimpse into the identity of a public figure who clearly wants to be anything but public.”

Music for Shuffle →
inky: A pretty song that never ends. I wrote a series of short, interlocking phrases (each formatted as an individual MP3) that can be played in any order and still (sort of) make musical sense. Via johnholdun: 18 tracks, 2.6 minutes, and I’ve been listening on shuffle (and repeat) for infinity hours. Tempted to layer in a little Rainy Mood.

Why ugly fonts and messy handwriting make it... →
infoneer-pulse: A study by Princeton University found that a significant number of those tested could recall more information when it was presented in unusual typefaces rarely used in textbooks. The research suggests that introducing ‘disfluency’ - by making information superficially harder to understand - deepens the process of learning and encourages better retention. The psychologists said...
